Rusty Layton's Bio
Rusty Layton is a native of the Washington DC area. He grew up in the Maryland suburbs, graduated from the University of Maryland in 1977, and has resided in Northern Virginia since 1980. He worked with his father through high school and college for General Heating installing HVAC systems and boilers. After college, Mr. Layton worked for Majestic Builders at the Parkfairfax Condo renovation project in Alexandria, Virginia, scheduling and supervising the renovation of apartments to condos. He supervised the construction of single family homes for Washington Homes and Globe Construction in Alexandria and Burke Centre, Virginia. He was a Vice President of the Inspection Department for Real Estate Appraisal Services in Germantown, Maryland. Mr. Layton worked for Homechek Inspection Services, of Falls Church, Virginia for fifteen years and in 1996 opened his own home inspection company, Russell Layton Associates. Rusty Layton is a Certified Home Inspector (ACI) by the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI).

Home Inspection Scheduling
Each day there are three inspection time slots to choose from- the morning, the midday or in the afternoon. I can usually accommodate most time requests. You or your agent can call to schedule the inspection or email me your inspection address and time request. I can research the property's listing and respond to you with a fee, availability or confirmation. My fees are based on my time and effort as opposed to sales price and they are quite reasonable. Check my Calendar online and decide what works best for you before you call or email your request if that is convenient for you to do. You'll need to make sure that we have access to the property and always check to make sure the utilities are on. It is preferred that the current occupants of the property are not present during the home inspection. You should attend the home inspection so that you can learn all sorts of valuable things about house, how to operate your systems, maintenance requirements, locations of valves, filters and all sorts of other useful information.

Home Inspection Report
Rusty Layton will inspect the property and follow the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics described by the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). You will be issued a report at the end of the inspection. The report will follow the requirements of ASHI. The report will include a list of working order defects, major defects, maintenance needs, repair needs and suggested improvements as well as related photos for clarification purposes. I use a pen tablet computer and will make a PDF version of the report and send it to you and your agent by email.

Radon Tests
Yes, I do Radon tests. There is a separate fee. The test results will be available within two to three days after deployment.

Fees
My fees are quite reasonable. Give me the property address and I will check out the listing for a quote.

Calendar

Don't worry if you loose your report. It's in the cloud if you ever need it!
